Educated in St. Mary’s High School, Kathmandu, Charu completed her Senior Cambridge
in 1980 from the same institute. She attended the Tri–Chandra Multiple Campus, Kathmandu
for Intermediate in Science with Biology as major and Bachelor in Sociology and
Psychology. Obtained her Bachelor in Education (B. Ed) with Major in School Administration
and School Supervision from Kathmandu Shiksha Campus and completed her Masters in
Sociology from Tribhuwan University. Charu started her career as a teacher in 1984
from Kinder Hearts School, joined I.J Pioneer School as one of the Pioneer teachers
in 1985 and continued to work as a teacher till 1989. For the next three years,
she worked as Administration and Marketing Director for Himalayan Holidays Group
from 1990 till 1992.
In 1993 she rejoined I. J. Pioneer as the Principal and continued in the said position
till 1998 during which period, she uplifted the school from Primary to Secondary
level – a commendable job. In 1999, she established her own school (New Millennium
High School) and worked as Founder Principal and teacher till 2003. Currently Charu
is the Administration and Human Resources Director of Himalayan Holidays Group whose
sister company is Himalayan Logistics & Recruitment Pvt. Ltd. Fluent in English,
Hindi and Nepali Language, she was an active member of the Private and Boarding
School Organization Nepal (PABSON) and was a pioneer member of SDA (School Development
Associates).
Charu is also the Secretary of the Mother’s Club- a non-governmental-non-profit
organization and is actively supporting the New Youth Development Society orphanage
as her social service work through “MISSION HIMALAYA” a not-for-profit non-Governmental
organization founded by herself and her husband Bibhu Thakur – established to address
the problems faced by women, children and the elderly people of the rural Himalayan
villages and farmlands. Charu loves to read, write, teach, travel, go trekking,
hiking, river rafting, jungle safari, enjoys cooking, has ‘green thumb’ and loves
nature.
