INTRODUCTION
Markha valley trek is the most popular trek in Ladakh. This trek has gained popularity
due to its accessibility from Leh. The duration of just 9-10 days, the beautiful,
ever changing landscapes, with narrow gorges and high peaks as Stok Kangri and Kang
Yatse make this trek all the more interesting. Since the trek is through Hemis National
Park there is a good chance of seeing wildlife such as bharals (blue sheep) and
Marmots. Markha valley is one of the greenest valleys in Ladakh region. The best
time to visit the region is from mid-June to mid-October as later in the season
it starts to get colder and there are chances of encountering snow on the high passes
of Ganda La and Kongmaru La.
In the central Indian States of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh tribal village life has
resulted in a variety of artistically executed handicrafts. Similarly, India's mountains
provide heli skiing, river running, mountaineering and trekking. Its beaches provide
lazy sun-bathing as well as wind surfing and snorkeling, and its jungles provide
shooting wildlife -with a cam. India is what one makes of it. There are temples
in profusion in enough styles and denominations to confuse anybody. The forts, abandoned
cities, ruins, battlefields and monuments all have their histories and tales to
tell. There are enough beaches to satisfy the most avid sun worshipper and trekking
routes of the Himalayas can provide an adventure to the most seasoned trekker. For
white water lovers, the upper Ganges and the Teesta River in Sikkim provides exhilarating
white water experience.
