The Annapurna region is geographically and culturally diverse and has been declared a conservation area. Various tribes inhabit the region’s subtropical lowlands, bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests, windswept desert plateaus and the towering Annapurna Mountain. Animal inhabitants include the marten, 4 species of wild deer, 2 species of monkey and the elusive snow leopard plus over 400 species of birds and many other mammals and reptiles.

Treks in the Everest region takes you to the foot of the world’s highest mountain traveling through forests and through villages, rivers and forests of rhododendron and pine right up to the snowline. These treks afford the closest and most spectacular views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest (the highest peak in the world-8, 8,848m) and you will meet mostly Sherpas and Tibetan people.

Langtang trek is to the north of the valley of Kathmandu. It is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibet border and is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and lower range of snowy peaks to the south. The area was designated Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park in 1971A.D. In this area as in any conservation parks, use of firewood is strictly prohibited.

A visit to Langtang offers an opportunity to explore Tibetan-style villages, to climb small peaks and to visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. Langtang Valley is covered in flowers during the summer and is therefore a good summer trek. According to legend, a Lama following a runaway Yak discovered the valley. Hence the name “Lang”- means Yak in Tibetan language and “Teng” (more precisely Dhang) means to follow was kept. Some major trekking routes are:

A long and arduous trekking course which takes you to the mountain ranges surrounding the three great peaks of Mt. Makalu, Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse in the remote interior. This trek is considered a very difficult one involving high altitude areas, specially the passes, that is the Shipton- La pass, which actually consists of two passes, the Keke La (4127m) and the Tutu La (4075m).

The trek up to the Makalu Base Camp (4800m) and return to (Tumlingtar) is not as tough and dangerous as going on to the Everest Region over the Sherpani Col pass (6110m) which requires about 700 m rope and climbing skills. We organize:

The Kanchenjunga Region with a myriad of glaciers, high pass crossings and vast untracked foothills offers the opportunity for almost endless exploration. The trek to the base camp of the 3rd highest mountain in the world-Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586meter/28,208 feet) situated in the eastern Nepal and Sikkim (India) border is a remarkable experience in discovering extraordinary people and their undisturbed culture as this region was opened to trekkers and climbers only since 1970 A.D. It has one of the largest concentration of birds and wildlife. The glaciers deep in the Kanchenjunga range provide magnificent views and a memorable experience to visitors.

It is a remote area trek and is suitable for fully equipped trekkers. Ganesh Himal lies to the west of Langtang and its range consists of several peaks over 7000 meters in an elevation with uninhabited foothills running down to the south and west. Treks takes you from Syabrubesi to the base of the mountains up to the Paldor Peak with snow encounters, the glaciers and alpine lakes that are found between them. The treks lead down a long exposed ridge to finish either at Trishuli or Dhading District. There are no facilities for much of the trek so total self-sufficiency of all camping gears including Sherpa staff is essential. Some of the major treks of this region are:

This far eastern hilly region of Nepal has considerable potential for offbeat and out of the ordinary treks along very rarely visited trails. The mountain scenery, mystifying flora and fauna, indigenous people and their unique culture relatively different to those found in further west are all the spectacular assets of this region. In addition, we can view the spectacular sight of tea plantation in Ilam. Himalayan Holidays operates special medical treks in conjunctions with Himalayan Healthcare Inc. Nepal in this area particularly focused and targeted on development and healthcare of deprived and poor people in rural areas of this region. Also known as Kingdom of “Lomanthang”, Mustang is a tiny Himalayan Kingdom with allegiance to The King of Nepal. The present King is- Jigme Parbal Bista. The King of Nepal conferred the honorary title “Bista” (a high caste title in Nepal). Though his duty is largely ceremonial, he is respected by the people and consulted about many issues by villagers throughout Mustang. The mountains feature the Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri Range. The route entails traveling across a desert like landscape, painted in every hue of gray and yellow.

Though the people call themselves “Lobas”-people from Lo, they are very much Tibetan and practice a sophisticated culture and economy. Though a restricted area, a limited number of visitors are allowed to visit this region accompanied by a Liaison Officer and upon payment of restricted area permit fees of minimum US$ 70 per person per day for minimum 10 days.
